ABOUT THE YOUNG URBAN ARTIST RETREAT

The Mission

Diversity Youth Theater seeks to expose young artists from Newark and similar communities to natural environments, in an effort to support new discoveries that can lead to further  development of a new generation of artistic voices.

The Young Urban Artist Retreat is designed to accomplish the following:​
 

-   EXPOSE YOUNG ARTISTS TO THE EXPERIENCE OF LIVING AND EXISTING IN A NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

-   CHALLENGE YOUNG ARTISTS TO INTENTIONALLY DISCONNECT FROM TECHNOLOGY AND CONNECT WITH NATURE​
 

-   ENCOURAGE YOUNG ARTISTS TO 'TUNE IN' TO THEIR INNER VOICE FOR CREATIVE DIRECTION 

-   EMPHASIZE THE VALUE OF MERGING WITH OTHERS TO CREATE NEW WORKS THAT INSPIRE​

Summers 2013 & 2014, 10 high school and undergraduate college students from Newark, NJ and the surrounding areas, took a 12 hours road trip from Newark, NJ to Frankfort, MI.   Many of the students had not traveled beyond the East Coast Region. Through a longstanding relationship with Lookout Camp/Crystalaire Adventures, the facilities for the retreat program were secured through generous donation!  On-line Fundraisers were held both years.  Through the generous support of hundreds of donors, the Young Urban Artists Retreat was able to provide this unique experience to young people.  The Young Urban Artist Retreat wil
